Campaign Summary (Year -11 to Year 20)

A quick overview of the various events that have occurred in-game throughout the Kingmaker campaign:

Year -11 (4699) – (Sarenith) June 21st
‘The Vanishing’: Every member of the ruling house, House Rogarvia, disappears overnight.
Year 0 (4710) – (Calistril) February 24th
The party received their first charter on behalf of Brevoy; to clear out the stolen lands so it can be reclaimed.

Year 0 – (Pharast) March 27th
The party take down a bandit lord named ‘The Stag Lord’ who had held sway over the northern section of the Greenbelt.  Signs indicate that the Bandit Lord was trying to win the favour of someone; sporting a fey shaped necklace and killing a unicorn for its horn to give as a present.

Year 0 - (Gozran) April 10th
The party travelled to Brevoy’s capital, New Stetven and received a new charter; they now have ownership of the Greenbelt and are in charge of building up a kingdom.  They make various diplomatic deals with noble houses, religions and powerful groups to secure funding and labour (in the process they snub Surtova, the ruling house as it would have turned their kingdom into Brevoy’s puppet).

Year 1 – (Gozran) April 12th
Wyvernshore is established as the capital of Dragonmere and is slowly built up, allowing the rulers time to explore more of their lands, securing its borders, making allies, mapping terrain and possible resources.

Year 1 – (Sarenith) June 21st
The rulers visit the village of Ravenmoor and liberate it from its cultist mayor.  Otto has a tryst with local girl Shel Lupescu (which unbeknownst to him results in her becoming pregnant).

Year 1 – (Sarenith) June 25th
The rulers return to their city and meet two prospective fiancĂ©es for Otto (Margot and Elana Brezeki).  During dinner Miro is attacked by an assassin but somehow avoids the attack and turns the tables on the attacker (it is likely that Surtova sent the assassin to address the snub for turning down their financial aid).

Year 1 – (Erastus) July 4th
Otto agrees to marry Margot Brezeki – the wedding will be in one year’s time.

Year 2 – (Pharast) March 9th
The group have been investigating disappearances and possible fey attacks and ended up being invited to a Spring Feast where they are the guests of honour.  They make a fey pact with a gentlefey called Emissary in order to get their cold iron weapons into the feast and liberate the captives held there.  They also meet some very interesting guests too (Troll King Hargulka, Sagroc the Bogeyman, Lady Sy, Grigori the bard).

Year 2 – (Pharast) March 18th
Unknown to the rulers, Shel Lupescu gives birth to an illegitimate heir; Zander Lupescu.  The baby is kidnapped shortly after birth (probably by Cultists of Gyronna) and Shel dies from a broken heart.  Her parents suspect Otto’s involvement and swear revenge (playing straight into Gyranna’s hands)…

Year 2 – (Desnus) May 2nd
As wedding preparations are underway a plague strikes the city and is dealt with.  Grigori is hired as a town crier and reveals that he was hired to spy on the kingdom (possibly by House Surtova, but unverified).  Royal Enforcer, Chief Sootscale of the Kobold Sootscale tribe, invites the rulers to his domain for a feast and there they meet Troll King Hargulka who is trying to convince  the kobolds into joining his kingdom to the South.

Year 2 – (Sarenith) June 2nd
With help from Grigori, the rulers foil a plot to replace Margot Brezeki with a doppelganger (there are possible signs that this was orchestrated by a follower of Gyronna).

Year 2 – (Sarenith) June 29th
For their strange stag-do, the rulers head to Candlemere Island, investigating its haunted tower – there they encounter otherworldly nightmares, hauntings, strange symbols and creatures from ‘The Far Realm’.

Year 2 – (Erastus) July 8th
The wedding of Lord Otto and Margot goes to plan, afterwards the rulers must help out a fey friend who was kidnapped by a henchman of Troll King Hargulka (who is trying to take over parts of southern Dragonmere).

Year 2 – (Erastus) July 29th
After several skirmishes with armies of monstrous creatures, the rulers of Dragonmere face off against Troll King Hargulka and manage to kill him, claiming his kingdom (which was in the south of ‘their’ land).

Year 2 – (Arodust) August 3rd
Returning back to Wyvernshore ahead of their armies, the rulers arrive in time to stop an enormous owlbear and a will-o-wisp/shambling mound hybrid from destroying their city.  This was a parting gift from Hargulka – but it looks like the troll king might have gotten some help from a mysterious patron to do so…

Year 2 – (Kuthona) December 21st
Reports come claiming that a portal to a strange realm briefly appeared for a couple of minutes.

Year 3 – (Sarenith) June 21st
More reports come in regarding a portal to a strange realm briefly appearing in the nearby forests.

Year 3 – (Kuthona) December 11th
All of the rulers (minus Otto) stake out the land around the fey tower and enter the strange portal when it appears ahead of schedule.  They find themselves in a fey demi-plane - its ruler, the “Fellnight Queen” is working to weaken the boundaries that separate her realm so she can invade Dragonmere in one year’s time.

Year 3 – (Kuthona) December 12th
Otto remains in Wyvernshore for the birth of his son.  During the process one of the matrons reveals herself to be a cleric of Gyronna, incapacitates Margot, kills the other attendants and absconds with the boy receiving aid from grieving Anya and Saul Lapescu (who blame Otto for the death of their daughter and grandson).  Otto calls upon the services of Emissary and makes a fey pact in exchange for a parcel of land which results in the culprits being teleported to him for justice, and his son safely returned.

Year 4 – (Kuthona) December 21st
After one year of preparations, the forces of Wyvernshore, Tatzleford, the kobolds and two squadrons from Fort Drelev unite to take on the Fellnight Queen’s immortal armies.  The party successfully slip into the queen’s realm, reach the castle and end her life, stopping the invasion.

Year 15 – (Desnus) May 22nd
All communications with neighbouring Varnhold have ceased.  At the request of Alyanna Varn (Maegar Varnhold’s daughter) who is married to one of the PCs, the rulers travel to the town of Varnhold and find it devoid of life except for the fey that moved in afterwards.  Signs indicate that the nearby Nomen Centaur tribe might be involved…

Year 15 – (Desnus) May 27th
The party turn down a large amount of money from House Surtova who are hoping to pin the ‘Varnhold Vanishing’ on the Nomen centaur in order to justify the eradication of the tribe.  The party then establish peaceful communications with the Nomen tribe and continue to investigate strange goings-on in the region; the vanishing of Vanhold’s citizens, strange red trees that are born from necromantic and natural energy and a powerful armoured undead centaur who defends these blooms.  In the end the group defeat a cyclops lich that had recently awoken after 10,000 years of slumber and had made use of a nearby fey artifact to steal away the Varnhold townsfolk.  The party inherit Varnhold and its surrounding land.

Year 17 –
The party travelled to a story book world and rescued Helga, Otto’s daughter, from a tyrannical patchwork dragon who sought to escape his fiction-based prison confined within a magical deck of harrow cards.

Year 17 –
After seeking permission from Varnhold, the PCs and Nomen, Emissary purchases the land around Vordakai’s tomb so he can attempt to reverse the negative effects infusing the artifact, Aranac’s Eye.

Year 19 -
The party aid a young lady hailing from Fort Drelev who asks that they rescue her family and other captives after their city was invaded by mercenaries and barbarians.  The PCs ally with the mercenaries, liberate Fort Drelev and track down and defeat the barbarian leader, Armag, who had attuned with a sword that was an artifact of Gorum which would fill the wielder with ideas of conquest.

Year 19 -
The party take ownership of Fort Drelev and the surrounding area due to Baron Drelev not being able to support the minor kingdom because of monster attacks, poor farming and pressures from northern Brevoy.

Year 19 -
The party travel from the material plane to the ethereal plane, astral plane, river of souls and then into the Boneyard in order to destroy Armag’s sword as it tried to turn Miro into a war-hungry conqueror and posed a threat in drawing others seeking to claim the sword to forge their own empire.

Year 20 –
Returning to the material plane half a year after they left it, the party discover Miro may have arranged an assassination on a member of house Surtova and made other overt threats whilst under the influence of Gorum’s sword.  Split over what to do in the party’s absence, north and south Brevoy drew dangerously close to civil war until the colossal red dragon, Choral the Conqueror, returned to Brevoy and has threatened to incinerate it in one year’s time, unless the former ruling house (House Rogarvia) are found and reinstated.

Year 20 –
The Wyvernshore rulers are invited to the 7th Rushlight Tournament in by King Irovetti of Pitax.

2nd Gozran 18 - An offer of friendly competition

Upon returning to Wyvernshore the group find they had a message addressed to them from the Kingdom of Pitax.

The message was an invitation from the King of Pitax for the kingdom of Dragonsmere to join the 7th Rushlight tournament.

Engage training montage and we possibly need our own competition to find the right competitors to take to the tournament.

30th Pharast 18 - Home Time!

With all the troubles cleared in the Drelev area the group decide to pack up the camp and return to Wyvernshore.

29th Pharast 18 - Shadow Councils, Boggards and feeble minds

After a spot of breakfast, the group head their way into the Boggard camp under a sphere of invisibility spell.

After investigating the camp, they decide to make way to one of the three huts that lead directly to the underground passages of the Boggards where they cast stone shape over the opening which seals it off for good.

They then head to another of the huts and cast a web spell over its entrance to prevent anything from escaping from below.

This left the hut at the furthest side where they drop down into the tunnels below and find themselves in what appeared to be a kitchen.

The group head towards an intersection which lead to an underwater escape cave and stone shape the passage closed before returning to the tunnels where they begin to clear out the inhabitants.

The tunnels were perfect for controlling the combat, there were a couple of small skirmish’s but the denizens didn’t put up much of a fight till they find the ‘Throne’ room.

Sitting upon a make shift throne that looked like it could fall apart at any minute was a large rotund Boggard along with 5 ‘Beefcaked’ Boggards as his guards.

“Attack Minions!” the Boggard Chief screams before anything could be said,

Vaneer casts Flamestrike hitting all creatures,

Miro attacks one of the guards and hits,

Hugo follows Miro’s example and attacks the same guard,

The Boggard guards attack the group and manage to only land a blow on Vaneer,

The Boggard Chief casts his own flamestrike scorching most of the group and kills one of his own minions,

Bob attacks one of the other minions and kills it,

Natalia casts a flamestrike spell at the chief as he mentions the Legless lady?

Otto casts a cone of cold killing another minion and injuring the chief and remaining minions further,

Otto then follows up with a quickened fireball which kills all the remaining foes including the chief.

Which the Boggard camp cleared out the group take time to investigate the area and discoverer a map which has a circle on a specific part and labelled ‘Legless Lady’

After some comparison, the group realise that the so called ‘Legless Lady’ was actually in the same area as them so they leave decide to leave the Boggard camp and investigate this lead.

Heading North east the group past the exiled Boggard and throw him the head of the now defeated chief.

When they reached the area marked on the map they find that all the surrounding plant matter was in an advanced decaying state.

As they start to investigate the area a large snake like creature (Naga) with a human head erupts from her hiding place flashing her fanged teeth as they dripped with venom.

The group try to talk to the Legless Lady and even offer her a place on the newly formed Shadow Council (What an honour!!) but she scoffs at offer and just laughs at them (The nerve!!) in her retort to the group she attempts to charm the group but only manages to grasp the feeble minds of Miro and Otto.

Vaneer casts a magic circle against evil to break the mind effects on Miro and Otto,

Hugo attacks the Naga but misses,

Vaneer casts Holy smite on the Naga,

Natalia summons an earth elemental which attacks and hits the Naga,

Otto now in control of his own mind casts a spell but fails to complete the casting,

Otto follows through with a quickened fireball which does manage to do something,

Boss shoots at the Naga and misses,

The Naga targets Hugo with a chain lightning bolt which rips and arcs through the entire group causing damage to all except Miro,

Hugo moves into a flanking position on the Naga but fails to land a successful blow,

Miro flanks with Hugo and manages to stab the serpent in the back,

The Elemental attacks and lands another successful blow,

Bob charges into the fray but misses the Naga,

Natalia throws a fireball at the Naga and engulfs her and Miro,

Otto casts a cone of cold also at the Naga which happens to also engulf Miro but kills the Naga.

The group move away from the site and set up camp for the night to recover from the long day of battle and travel plus Miro was whining about being a victim of unnecessary spells even though he took no injuries from it.

28th Pharast 18 - Oooh this is gonna be awkward!

The group leave Fort Drelev well rested and head south.

It doesn’t take long for them to literally bump into an exiled Bogard who implores the group to kill the chief of his clan whom as he put it likes to hunt for ‘Pinkies’ and use them for sacrifices.

The Boggard also wants the group to hunt down the murderous ‘Pinkies’ that killed his father over a decade ago whom had also been exiled and as proof he wants them to bring back the head of the leader. The group nervously agree to the quest knowing that they were the culprits he sought but that bridge they’d cross later.

Following the Boggards directions the group heads towards the main Boggard camp and rest a few away from it to give them time to plan their assault.

26th Pharast 18 - All Better!

The group rested as well as they could.

Vaneer and Natalia set to curing each of the party members which after a while is succeeded as they exile each cured person from the camp till all of them are cured.

The group then decide to head to Fort Drelev and spend a day or two dealing with rest and any political matters there.

25th Pharast 18 - A cleric is meant to cure not spread disease ....

Their first port of call is to investigate the disappearance of the travellers in the swamps, after spending some time navigating round the areas of bogs and quick sands they soon get to the north east side and walk into an eerie fog bank.

After an hour of wondering around in the fog both Natalia and Miro could hear noises coming from somewhere in the fog but whatever it is they knew it was big!

Otto casts invisibility sphere over the group just as two shapes appear in the fog ahead of them.

One of the shapes shouts “They’re here!” in a sylvian tongue,

Otto casts a misleading spell in attempt to “mislead” the figures in the fog as his spell shouts “Is someone here?” from elsewhere in the fog.

One of the figures charges off in the direction of the shout giving the group a glance at its appearance, it looked like horse and rider but the skin of both had been stripped off to reveal all the muscle and sinew whilst the horse’s skull was stripped back to bear bone.

Natalia and Otto after some thought believe the creatures to be some sort of evil fey.

The charging creature attacks the image causing it to disperse,

Otto casts disintegrate but fails to hit any target,

One of the creatures casts a spell causing all the plants in the nearby area to die (Blight),

The other creature charges towards Otto and hits the newly crowned King,

Vaneer casts Holy smite which hits and blinds one of the creatures,

Natalia casts firestorm and hits both creatures,

Hugo and Miro both move to flank the blinded creatures,

Hugo attacks and hits but does less damage to the creature’s flesh than he had expected,

Miro attacks and manages to hit,

<Insert very long combat scene drawn out by doing very little damage to the tough mudders whom did large damage and annoying fear effects>

With one creature left Otto blasts it into oblivion with a fireball just as it began to shout, “The Queen will……”

Vaneer suspects Otto’s queen is trying to off her husband for another suiter,

After the fight Vaneer tends to the wounds only to notice that everyone has been affected by a disease of some sort, then he realises that he is affected and most likely passed on the affection to the others whilst tending to the wounds.

To prevent further exposure and spreading the disease the group set up camp out of the swamp with the goal of dealing with the disease issue in the morning once Vaneer and Natalia have prepared the required spells.

22nd Pharast 18 - Cleaning up after the Kids

The group decide to head towards Drelev and deal with the minor tasks outstanding from their absence before dealing with all the political fluff and dander.

21st Pharast 18 - 27th Pharast - The Royal Weekly Bender

Coronation of King Otto

It twas a glorious affair, all but House Surtova attended the festivities.

Vaneer didn’t fluff his lines or get his robes caught under his feet.

Miro feel asleep and snored through the final twos of the proceedings despite constant prodding from Natalia.

The food and drink was plenty and the festivities went on for two days straight and ended in some legendary headaches and a missing royal crown which is assumed to have been placed somewhere inappropriate as a prank (it will be found eventually).

Lamashan 18th 17 to 20th Pharast 18 - The Shiny River Part 2 aka A very long day!

Half a was day spent following the silver strand.

Eventually the silver strand slowly began to weave into a massive, powerful torrent of a silver watered river. At this point Zzamas turns to the group and bids them farewell as she could not travel any further with them.

As the group watch the river flow past them they could see masses of souls could be seen floating within the river. Vaneer and Otto after a short discussion both believed that it would be possible for the group to travel in the river and suffer no ill effect from it.

The group wade into the river and in no time the rivers current picked them up and carried them off downstream. Along the way they occasionally saw many outsiders tending to the river from the banks which also allowed the group to figure out how fast they were travelling along the river in this otherwise featureless scenery.

Just in that moment both Miro and Vaneer noticed something swimming in the river and heading towards the group just as a large creature, like an elongated humanoid lizard erupts from the river.

Vaneer remembers the creature as a powerful daemon that loves eating souls but obviously has a drool on at the sight of Miro.

Creature casts a spell at Vaneer and hits as the cleric turns pale and begins to feel woozy,

Vaneer casts attempts to cast a spell but fails to penetrate the creature’s defences,

Miro strikes at the creature but his attacks appeared to pass through the creature,

Creature attacks Miro five times but only lands one blow,

Vaneer casts magic circle from evil over the group,

Miro attacks again but misses,

Otto casts a quickened haste followed by a hold monster,

Natalia casts Baleful polymorph which takes effect as it turns the creature both physically and mentally into a turtle,

Vaneer deals with the damage dealt by the creature before the group continue their swim.

As they travel along the waters they soon pass a celestial and a demon searching for a daemon in the area, Otto soon directs them in the direction of a certain turtle they had encountered.

They continue along the river for some unknown amount of time but eventually the whiteness of the plane begins to fade into a grey with a moon sprouting a sinister face as the group soon find themselves in The Boneyard.

Soon the river flowed into a large area where it split into various tunnels. Natalia used her druidic abilities to find the direction that the group needed to head in and they soon made their way down one of the larger passages.

Otto casts invisibility sphere over the group as they spent the next few hours wondering through the passages where they pass hundreds of souls standing around in queues whilst song bird like clerks directed the souls about the place.

As the group walk around the place they notice in the distance a sombrely tall pale woman wearing many veils and bat wings but she doesn’t seem to notice the group. They do however eventually notice a man carrying numerous scrolls following them around the place even though they were invisible.

After much debate the group greet the follower and ask about his business, he soon tells them that he wants to help all travellers and that he is known as a contract devil, which in exchange for a person’s soul when they pass away would grant them any wish they could desire.

The group ponder about the deal for a while and discuss it amongst themselves but decide to decline his kind offer 'for now’.

Eventually after a few more hours of traipsing around the group emerge into a continuous field of gravestones set in an eternal night, now they began the arduous task of searching for Miro’s gravestone.

The group travel for what feels like days with no success till a little bird landed on Natalia’s shoulder whom after she casted a ‘speak with animals’ spell finds out that they were in completely wrong area but if they were to travel through a nearby portal they would have a better chance of finding Miro’s grave.

With the bird coming along for a ride the group pass through the suggested portal. Once on the other side the bird continued to direct the group through to another portal. As they emerge from the second portal the bird leaves them as it finally directs them towards a nearby dome before flying off.

As they make their way towards the black dome in the distance a group of humanoid’s called ‘Psychopomp’ notices them and points towards them with their scythes.

Otto then casts invisibility sphere over the group again before continuing to travel towards the dome.

When they got closer a black dragon with feathers could been seen guarding the entrance to the dome they were heading for. Otto believed the creature to be a very powerful psychopomp so the group agreed that the ‘honesty approach’ was probably the best approach in this situation.

The group approach the huge black creature and greet the creature cheerily which lead into a large back and forth conversation, with the creature's only response being “Elaborate Further”.

Hours pass and after a tiring conversation the creature finally allows them to pass into the dome with two conditions, the first is that they must return to him after they complete their task and the second was not to touch any gravestone other than the ones they sought.

Inside the dome was again another far stretching field of gravestones but they could tell from the names on them that these graves were for cultures and kingdoms closer to Dragonmere. After some time searching around inside the dome the group eventually find Miro’s itsy bitsy tiny gravestone.

After some encouraging Miro takes the cursed blade and smacks it over the top of his gravestone thrice causing it to shatter all over the floor as a blue glowing orb emerges from the hilt of the blade and flies off to where ever it goes.  With only the hilt remaining, and no traces of magic left in it the party leave the remains of the sword on the grave.

Before returning to the Psychopomp guarding the dome the group take some time to find each of their gravestones and like Miro’s none give any indication of when or how each of them would bite the dust. Once they return the creature surprises them by offering them a portal to return them home.

As they step through the portal they soon find themselves standing in a field which after taking some time to get their bearings realise that they are only four days away from Wyvernshore but instead of it being a few days later in Rova they quickly discover its Pharast!  They had been gone for 6 months!

Otto decides that walking for four days is too much considering they had been away for six months so he teleports the group into Wyvernshore castles courtyard just in time for his official coronation as King as he’s kingdom grows, which allowed just enough time to bathe and catch up with the council beforehand.

They soon find out that the eldest of their off-springs had gone looking for the group and have tried their best to deal with some of the kingdoms issues but there is still the odd problem that requires the parent’s attention to resolve.

A civil war had also broken out in Brevoy after there was an assassination attempt on one of the House Surtova figureheads which had failed. Apparently, the poisoned blade used in the attempt was found with a message saying the attempt was made on Miro’s orders.

House Surtova had come to Wyvernshore wanting blood but as Miro was conveniently not around they returned to Brevoy to try and ‘Bully’ the other noble house into backing Surtova’s demands but the reaction wasn’t as well received as they had hoped causing unrest.

And if that wasn’t nose pinching in disbelief enough, Choral the Conquer (an Ancient Red Dragon who conquered the lands that now form Brevoy several hundred years ago and left the rule of the country to members of his bloodline, House Rogarvia  All of whom unfortunately disappeared mysteriously overnight some 30 years ago) had re-appeared claiming that the ‘Current’ rulers of Restov were not fit and that the heir of house Rogarvia needs to be presented to the dragon in exactly one year’s time, else he would reduce the country to ashes!

As to the issues that the children didn't get round to resolving; some Boggards near fort Drelev have become unruly and require attention and dispatching, also travellers have been mysteriously disappearing in the swamp to the north east of Fort Drelev and no one can seem to figure out who or why.
